Dracaena reflexa 'Variegata'

variegated song of India

A very fully foliated and almost spherical three foot tall variegated song of India plant, Dracaena reflexa Variegata, with yellow and green leaves at The Botanic Gardens at Kona Kai Resort in Key Largo, Florida

This plant has been used in Madagascan medicine to treat dysentery, poisoning, and symptoms of malaria. It has also been employed to help stop bleeding and alleviate fevers. Leaves and bark are mixed with other plants native to Madagascar and made into an herbal tea. While it can grow quite large outdoors, this plant makes a very attractive indoor plant that will remain smaller if kept in a pot. It grows best in the landscape in part sun and is drought tolerant but sensitive to salt spray.
