Selected Blog Posts

From 2011 to 2014, I (Rick) wrote a blog during my time as Associate Director / Ethnobotanist at The Botanic Gardens at Kona Kai Resort. While much in those blog postings was specific to that particular place and the particular plants there, many of the themes described in the postings transcend place and time, and continue to be relevant to the Gardens' "new incarnation" in virtual form as "Why Plants Matter". For that reason, I have selected the following blog posts that I feel relate to the main theme of "Why Plants Matter" and several "sub-themes" including: "Plants as Partners", "Without plants there is no life", "21st Century Botany", "Transforming Your Understanding of Plants", and "Education / Restoration / Transformation", all of which I incorporated into the tours I used to give at the Gardens, the information from which is now preserved in this virtual ethnobotanic garden that is "Why Plants Matter".

Enjoy!
